Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date Update for Nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10: Expected on November 3rd
Rumors concerning Android 5.0 Lollipop's
release date on November 3rd for Nexus devices have been confirmed by
an internal document obtained by tech site Android Police.
While
the release date hasn't been officially confirmed from Google, this
November 3rd release date is said to apply to all Google Nexus devices,
including the Nexus 9, the Nexus 6, and the aging Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10.
The
Nexus 9 is Google's newest tablet that sports an 8.9-inch display and
comes available in 16GB or 32GB models. The Nexus 6 is Google's latest
flagship smartphone that boasts a 6-inch quad HD screen and an improved
13-megapixel camera. Both devices will launch on November 3rd.
The
document obtained by Android Police was sent to app developers as an
instruction in regards to the currently available Software Development
Kit for Android 5.0 Lollipop. "Starting November 3rd, Nexus 9 will be
the first device available to consumers that will run Android 5.0," the
note reads. "Therefore, it is a great time to publish on Google Play,
once you've updated and tested your app. Even if your apps target
earlier versions of Android, take a few moments to test them on the
Android 5.0 system images, and publish any updates needed in advance of
the Android 5.0 rollout."
With a record-breaking 5,000-plus new
APIs being supported at launch, Lollipop is said to be the most
ambitious version of the Android OS to date. This open nature of the
operating system is its biggest advantage, allowing developers from all
over the world to improve the Android experience for phones, tablets,
and wearables.
While the brief note doesn't name any other
devices than the Nexus 9 and 6, Android Police mentions previous reports
that both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will see Lollipop's over-the-air
update on the 3rd. The Nexus 4 and 5 were both reported as dropping "in
the coming weeks," but it's believed that all Nexus devices may unlock
the OS update on the same day.
But as with every other OS update,
Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to roll out to certain users and
certain carriers in stages. Then, after the Nexus devices have had their
updates, all other Android manufacturers are expected to follow
through. The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will both launch with the operating
system installed, and will be the first to contain the new Android
update.
