Google launches 'Contributor' payment service for ad-free internet browsing

http://www.classiblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Google-in-ten-years_classiblogger.png

Internet users pay a couple of dollars a month and in return see an ad-free web on participating sites...

Google has unveiled a new scheme to let websites collect money from visitors without using online advertising – an industry that many resent for its reliance on the collection of personal data.
Google’s Contributor program replaces ad revenue with a monthly subscription fee: participating websites show no adverts to users paying into the scheme and in return these sites collect part of their contributions.

The scheme has been launched as an experiment this week with half a dozen partners currently signed up: Urban Dictionary, The Onion, Science Daily, WikiHow, Mashable and Imgur.
Participation for internet users is currently limited (though there is a waiting list) and Google is offering sign-ups the choice to pay $1, $2 or $3 a month, adding: “The more you contribute, the more you support the websites you visit.”

How Contributor works. Image credit: Google.
Google has said it's started with mostly small sites (Imgur is the largest, with 100 million unique monthly visitors – though far less engagement on its front page) to get a feel for how the service would work on a larger scale.

So far 'Contributor' will only replace ads provided by Google with a small thank you message, but the success of the scheme could encourage more sites to trial subscription services instead of advertising.

This would represent a sea change in how the web funds itself, reducing the clout of advertising companies and therefore minimizing the need for sites to collect personal information about their users: a practice that can feed into surveillance by governments and law enforcement.

Apple’s highly anticipated iPads – iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 – were launched in October. The Cupertino Company didn’t ignore the Indian market and was quick enough to reveal what the prices would be for the devices in India. The all new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are now available for pre-order on online stores like Flipkart and Infibeam.
The iPad Air 2 as well as iPad mini 3 can be picked in space grey, white and gold options. The e-retailers promise to ship both devices by the end of the month.

As revealed earlier the iPad Air 2 16GB Wi-Fi model is available for Rs 35,900. The 64Gb and 128GB iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi models are priced at Rs 42,900 and Rs 49,900, respectively. The 16GB iPad Air 2 (Wi-Fi and Cellular) will be priced at Rs 45,900 , 64GB model at Rs 52,900 and 128GB at Rs 59,900.
The Wi-Fi models of the iPad mini 3 are priced at Rs 28,900 for the 16GB model, Rs 35,900 for the 64GB model and Rs 42,900 for the 128GB model. The 16GB, 64GB and 128GB iPad mini 3 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) models will be priced at Rs 38,900, Rs 45,900 and Rs 52,900, respectively.

While we expected the device to go on sale around Diwali along with the iPhone 6, given Apple’s track record in India it still isn’t too late considering the devices were launched just a month and half ago.
The Apple iPad Air 2 measures just 6.1mm thin and weighs just 435g. It is easily the world’s thinnest tablet, almost 18 per cent thinner than the original iPad Air. The major update is the presence of the TouchID fingerprint scanner on the power button in the iPad Air 2.
It comes in the golden coloured back as well as space-gray and silver backs. The other major addition is the presence of an 8MP iSight camera, which brings in all the goodies such as time-lapse mode, live HDR, 120fps slo-mo mode, burst mode, panorama and so on. There is an improved 1.2MP front facing camera as well.
The Apple iPad mini 3 is a generational upgrade over the iPad mini with Retina Display. The major update with the mini 3 is also the addition of the TouchID which improves security. The iPad mini 3 is powered by the Apple A7 SoC and just like the iPad Air 2, will run on iOS 8.1. It also gets the 5MP iSight camera like the iPad mini 2. Most of the other aspects of the iPad mini 3 have been carried forward from its previous iteration – the iPad mini 2.

Firefox dumps Google for search, signs on with Yahoo

Google's 10-year run as Firefox's default search engine in the US is over. Yahoo wants more search traffic, and a deal with Mozilla will bring it.

In a major departure for both Mozilla and Yahoo, Firefox's default search engine is switching from Google to Yahoo in the United States.
"I'm thrilled to announce that we've entered into a five-year partnership with Mozilla to make Yahoo the default search experience on Firefox across mobile and desktop," Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer said in a blog post Wednesday. "This is the most significant partnership for Yahoo in five years."
The change will come to Firefox users in the US in December, and later Yahoo will bring that new "clean, modern and immersive search experience" to all Yahoo search users. In another part of the deal, Yahoo will support the Do Not Track technology for Firefox users, meaning that it will respect users' preferences not to be tracked for advertising purposes.
With millions of users who perform about 100 billion searches a year, Firefox is a major source of the search traffic that's Google's bread and butter. Some of those searches produce search ads, and Mozilla has been funded primarily from a portion of that revenue that Google shares. In 2012, the most recent year for which figures are available, that search revenue brought in the lion's share of Mozilla's $311 million in revenue.
Google now has Chrome, though, and it doesn't have to share search-ad revenue from that browser with anybody but itself. Yahoo, meanwhile, has ambitions to reclaim its former prominence in Web search.
Yahoo showed a preview of a revamped search interface that Firefox users in the US will start seeing in December.
Yahoo showed a preview of a revamped search interface that Firefox users in the US will start seeing in December.
"At Yahoo, we believe deeply in search -- it's an area of investment and opportunity for us. It's also a key growth area for us," Mayer said. "This partnership helps to expand our reach in search and gives us an opportunity to work even more closely with Mozilla to find ways to innovate in search, communications and digital content."

More flexibility in Firefox innovation

Mozilla wanted to move away from a global search contract to one that offered more regional flexibility, but the Yahoo deal also was motivated by Mozilla's desire to improve the search experience for Firefox users, said Mozilla Chairwoman Mitchell Baker. "They're open to innovations," she said.
That includes work on how Firefox's "awesomebar" -- its combined address and search box -- retrieves data both from people's own content and from what's available online. "Search of external providers and search of our own stuff is closely related," Baker said. "There are lot of potential improvements there."
Negotiating with Yahoo was simpler than with Google, Baker said. Google competes directly to try to lure users to its own Chrome browser.
"When you have a partnership that has competitive aspect to it, it does require a lot of time and attention and focus," Baker said.
Mozilla was in a good bargaining position: search engines have been placing a higher value on its search traffic, Baker said.
"Both arrangements we were looking at had very good economics," Baker said. "We're utterly confident in our stability and viability going forward."

More search volume

Search volume is important to search engines. The more that people search, the more opportunities advertisers have to show ads, including ads associated with search terms that might not otherwise be common enough.
Terms of the deal weren't announced. Firefox users will continue to be able to change their default search engine.
Still, Jan Dawson, chief analyst at Jackdaw Research, thinks many Firefox users will not bother to change the default settings. "Google should be concerned," said Dawson. "This could mean a significant switch in market share away from Google toward Yahoo."
Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Firefox was an early leader in building a search box directly into the browser, but after a decade sending traffic to Google, Mozilla concluded it was time for a change.
"Google has been the Firefox global search default since 2004. Our agreement came up for renewal this year, and we took this as an opportunity to review our competitive strategy and explore our options," the organization said.
Mozilla has toyed with search-engine changes before, for example with a dalliance with Yandex in Russia, by setting Baidu as the default search engine in China and by making Bing, from erstwhile rival Microsoft, another option.

Yandex back for search in Russia

The new deal with Yahoo is only one change in which Mozilla will become more locally flexible, the nonprofit organization said. Mozilla is keeping Baidu in China and switching back to Yandex in Russia. Mozilla isn't actively looking at other search changes right now, Baker said.
The Yahoo-Mozilla deal is an alliance of underdogs. Mozilla's share of browser usage has been slipping in recent months, and Yahoo is third place with 10 percent of US searches in October, according to ComScore. For Yahoo, that was still enough for quarterly search revenue of $450 million, after payments to the affiliates that helped drive some of that search traffic. That was a 6 percent year-over-year increase, Yahoo said.
Yahoo sold off its search business to Microsoft five years ago, and Microsoft powers Yahoo search results. However, Yahoo keeps some of the revenue -- indeed, all of it for mobile searches. Yahoo declined to comment on specific revenue share terms of that deal.
"We are coming to the midpoint of the 10-year agreement" with Microsoft, Mayer said after reporting results for Yahoo's fiscal third quarter of 2014. "We may want to contemplate changes on both sides. So Microsoft has some rights at that point, so do we. We're working through this with Microsoft."
Mozilla has been working with Yahoo for months on the partnership, and relations with Yahoo's new CEO has been good, Baker said.
"Marissa has a very strong product focus, which is wonderful," Baker said. "Really having an executive who understands the product experience, who's really engaged in it, has been a real high point. We've been happy that Yahoo has gotten done the things that said they would get done with us."

Aerial robotics arena to open in London

/q/j/i/TE_UAV_Centre.jpg
A new arena for aerial robots at Imperial College London is expected to put Britain at the forefront of unmanned aerial systems and inspire the next generation of aeronautical engineers.
According to Imperial, the global market value of unmanned aerial robot manufacturing is expected to reach an estimated $89bn in the next ten years, with applications ranging from search and rescue, wildlife conservation and inspection and repair of industrial facilities, particularly in hazardous environments.
Imperial says it aims to capitalise on its position as one of the UK’s leading centres for aerial robotics research with the development of the new laboratory at its South Kensington Campus.

The development of this £1.25m facility has been made possible thanks to a gift from Imperial alumnus Brahmal Vasudevan, the founder and CEO of private equity firm Creador.
The Brahmal Vasudevan Aerial Robotics Lab will consist of a two-storey laboratory and workshop, hosted by the City and Guilds building, on its roof. It will have teaching facilities for undergraduates and postgraduates, housing a workshop for manufacturing aerial robots and an enclosed arena for test flights.  It will also be one of only a handful of facilities in the world that will be able to test hybrid aerial robots that can fly and then dive into water.
Prof Jeff Magee, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said: ‘The Brahmal Vasudevan Aerial Robotics Lab will be a focal point for our aerial robotics research and education activities. We also want this facility to a place for prospective students and school children to visit, inspiring them to become future aeronautical engineers.’
The flight arena will include sixteen high-speed 3D aerial tracking cameras that will wirelessly control how the robots fly, and also record their flight dynamics which will be fed in real-time back to computers. A further eight 3D tracking cameras will be positioned in a water tank, which will be used to test the combination aerial robots as they dive into and swim through the water.
The Brahmal Vasudevan Aerial Robotics Lab will also bring the testing facilities into closer proximity with manufacturing facilities at the College. These workshops have 3D printers and laser micromachining equipment, which is used to fabricate components, making construction of the aerial robots more efficient.
The new location is also expected to lead to more and varied collaborations between people across different scientific and engineering disciplines at the College and across the UK.
Construction of the Brahmal Vasudevan Aerial Robotics Lab will begin in 2016....

Want an invite to Google's Inbox? Now's the time to act

Google opens up an invitation-request window, but it's brief.

If you've been itching to give Google Inbox a spin but have been held back by the lack of an invitation to try the free email app, now's the time to act.
The Web giant opened up an invitation-request window Wednesday in which prospective users will have one hour to request an invite to the app, which Google unveiled last month. Gmail users who submit a request for an invitation toinbox@google.com by 4 p.m. PT will receive an emailed invitation within an hour, Google announced in a tweet Wednesday. The company had previously limited the number of invitations it was sending out.
Developed by the Gmail team, Inbox is intended to coexist with Google's flagship email product, not replace it. For example, it groups similar types of messages, and automatically highlights key information such as flight itineraries and event information. It comes as competitors, including Apple and file-sharing company Dropbox, have released or updated products aimed at making it easier to find online needles in a haystack.
A key Inbox feature called Assists integrates real-time updates from the Web directly into email, while the Bundles option automatically groups similar messages, such as receipts, and allow you to swipe them all away at once. Inbox also integrates Google Now reminders and lets you create your own reminders.
The app is available on smartphones running Google's Android operating system or Apple's iOS, and on the Web -- but only in Google's Chrome browser for now...

India leads world in restricting content on Facebook

Facebook has restricted access to nearly 5,000 pieces of information on its website in India in the first six months of 2014, the highest for any country, following requests from government and other agencies to act against hate-content on social media platforms.
India is the largest userbase for Facebook outside the US with over 100 million users.
Similar steps were taken in Turkey (1,893) and Pakistan (1,773) during the said period, Facebook said in its Government Requests Report.

"We restricted access in India to a number of pieces of content reported primarily by law enforcement officials and the India Computer Emergency Response Team under local laws prohibiting criticism of a religion or the state," Facebook said in the report.
India is also ranked second, just behind the US, in terms of government requests for access to users and accounts.
During January-June 2014, Facebook said it had received 4,559 requests for information on 5,958 users and accounts. Of this, 50.87 per cent of requests saw some data being produced.
Compared to the July-December 2013 period, the number of requests has gone up over 26 per cent, while it is higher by 40 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Facebook said it received total 15,433 requests for 23,667 users and accounts and 80.15 per cent of requests saw some data being produced. "Since our first report, we've seen an increase in government requests for data and for content restrictions. In the first six months of 2014, governments around the world made 34,946 requests for data an increase of about 24 per cent since the last half of 2013," Facebook Deputy General Counsel Chris Sonderby said in a blogpost.
"During the same time, the amount of content restricted because of local laws increased about 19 per cent," he added.
"We scrutinise every government request we receive for legal sufficiency under our terms and the strict letter of the law, and push back hard when we find deficiencies or are served with overly broad requests," he said. He added that the US-based firm, which has about 1.3 billion users, will continue to work with industry and civil society partners to push governments for additional transparency.

Android Lollipop Hit By Big Battery Life Problem

On Monday Google GOOGL -1.46% announced the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company is known for its gradual roll-outs, but with no Nexus 4, 5, 7 or 9 yet to update the frustration has been growing. Now we know why: Lollipop has problems.
Android Police got wind earlier today that a WiFi bug in the final build of Lollipop is dramatically impacting battery life. This was backed up by mass reports of the problem in the official Android Developer Forum which were quickly fused into a single thread that is now over 800 posts long.
Google Android Senior Developer Trevor Johns ultimately chimed inconfirming that:
“Android Engineering is aware of an issue affecting Nexus 5 users running Android 5.0 which causes significant “Miscellaneous” battery usage while WiFi is enabled. This appears to be caused by an abnormally high number of IRQ wakeup events. We are continuing to investigate this issue.”
Android Lollipop WiFi bug causes dramatic battery drain (image courtesy of Android Developer Preview)

(image courtesy of Android Developer Preview)
Johns’ welcome candour confirms Google doesn’t yet have a fix for the bug and the many uploaded screenshots to the thread (some samples above) show “significant” is an apt description with Nexus 5 testers showing a full battery is lasting 4 hours or less.
Other testers have noted that disabling WiFi eliminates the problem, but this is hardly a practical solution for a mass roll out.

Google has yet to confirm whether the bug impacts other Nexus smartphones and tablets and whether that means they will get their Lollipop updates ahead of the Nexus 5 remains to be seen. Either way it seems the new Nexus 6 phablet and Nexus 9 tablet are unaffected, with both devices shipping.
Android Lollipop is vital for Google and its Material Design interface will be used across all Google services
Android Lollipop is vital for Google and its Material Design interface will be used across all Google services

Of course the last thing Google needs right now is to release Android 5.0 full of bugs. Apple AAPL +0.24% hadproblem after problem with iOS 8 which it is only now fully resolving and Google will be loathe to waste the opportunity to contrast that with a slick Lollipop release, particularly if it only costs a few more days to get it right.
November 12 is now pegged as the day when legacy Nexus devices will receive Lollipop, but this could easily change. On the bright side it shouldn’t make a major difference to non-Nexus devices which have a longer wait in any case...

Play HD Games Without Graphics

How To Play HD Games Without Graphics Card - Part I

Play Big Games Without Graphics Card - Part I

These days games that are coming in the market are having great graphics, smooth game-play and much more but to play these game you need to have Graphic Cards but graphic cards costs huge amount. So i have a simple solution to this thing. This might not work as graphic cards work but it will simply enable the game-play so that you enjoy the new game.

SwiftShader’s modular architecture is capable of supporting multiple application programming interfaces, such as DirectX® 9.0, and OpenGL® ES 2.0, the same APIs that developers are already using for existing games and applications. SwiftShader can therefore be directly integrated into applications without any changes to source code
So the steps involved are:

1. Download Swiftshader Software from the link provided.
2. Since it is a rar file so extract it after downloading.
3. Copy d3d9.dll file from the downloaded folder x86/x64.
4. Paste it in your games installation directory.
5. For example: I wanted to run the Game called Call of Duty Black Ops then Go to C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty Black Ops.
5. Just Paste it in your game installation directory and run the game.

Download Swiftshader 3.0 for x86bits

Download Swiftshader 3.0 for x64bits

Here is a important notice that keep your game graphic setting i.e resolution, texture effects ,dynamic lights, anti aliasing etc effects in low profile and you be able to play the games more smoothly. To increase your Frame rate Per Second you need a software called Game Gain. This software is in trial version but don't worry guys i have uploaded the software and the patch to make it full version
